Catherine Dalton’s choral, instrumental, and solo voice compositions are inspired by classical, jazz, folk, world music and chant. Winner of MacPhail’s Composition Scholarship, Dalton was recently selected to participate in Nautilus Music-Theater’s nationally recognized Composer-Librettist Studio. Performers of her music include the internationally known new music ensemble Zeitgeist, vocal ensembles Part Four and Amaryllis and singers Carrie Henneman-Shaw, Jeffrey Hess, Nicole Warner and Nita Gilbert in addition to numerous choirs across the United States. This past year Dalton served as Composer-in-residence for Global Harmony Community Chorus and Community of Peace Academy's Academy Choir. Recent commissions include works for concert band, children’s choir, women's choir and world-music choir.

As I recently sat at my vendor table at the Unitarian Universalist Musician's Network (UUMN) Annual Conference, I found myself incredibly grateful to be doing the work I do. Siana receives performance at UUMN workshop Patricia Readon, soprano, and Dan Broner, djembe, performed Siana on Saturday, July 17 at the First Unitarian Society in Madison, Wisconson.
Documentary highlighting Dalton's Composer-in-Residence at Community of Peace Academy availble soon
Interviews of the students and staff of Community of Peace Academy will be at the heart of a documentary exploring the series of activities centered around a timeless Hmong parable and culminating in the premiere of One Mind, One Heart by Community of Peace Academy's Academy Choir, John Sorlien, director. Activities funded in part by a MetLife Meet the Composer Grant.
Sweet Radiant Mystery and boundless joy featured at the 2010 General Assembly (GA) of the Unitarian Universalist Association
Sweet Radiant Mystery was sung by the 180 voice GA choir under the direction of Ruth Palmer as part of the Sunday Morning Worship Service. Additionally, Beth Syverson directed the premiere of boundless joy, by the GA Minister's Choir at the Service of the Living Tradition. Thank you Choirs! |
